Man, you want "grim" read Anderson - those bastards ALL sucked. I mean really, 'Girl who stepped on a loaf" gets sucked down to hell, "Steadfast Tin Soldier" gets melted down, Tinder Box, murdering rapist calls upon demonic dogs just so he can have his way w/ the princess and rule the kingdom... horrible, just horrible.

@Stan da Man- You're absolutely right. Those stories are just terrifying. In "The Little Mermaid," the mermaid gets legs (via magic potion) to attempt to win the love of a prince - but every step causes agonizing pain. And the prince falls in love with someone else, so the little Mermaid considers killing him and using the prince's blood to turn her back into a mermaid. But she can't do it, so she throws herself into the sea and dies. It's a story only Johnny could love.

@Stan da Man- Gloves mean never having to say you're sorry.

One of the reasons I liked "Mulan" is that, not knowing the original story, I didn't know how Disney had >screwed< ..er.. prettied it up. But I'm wandering pretty far off the reservation...

@Stan, didn't H C Andersen also write "The Little Match Girl"? There's a real heartwarming Christmas tale for you--if you like your Christmas tales all about poverty and death and dysfunctional families.
