Man, shop teachers w/ radical scars were the ONLY ones you respected....
BITD, anyway, when we KNEW the meaning of respect...
for table saws, that could throw a board 1/2 way through a cinder block wall (they never fixed the wall, fig'd it would be a "lesson moment" for future classes - worked for ME!!!)

@Pete(Detroit)- Somewhere out there is a great old B&W shop safety movie named "They Called Him Lucky" (or something very like that). Not only does it feature fingers going through a band saw, but a forklift falling on a poor sap, and a "kickback" from an unsecured board on a table saw that impales the poor SOB at another workstation. Mind you, the footage is faked (although some of the actors have real missing appendages) but it's darned effective!

Radial arm saws, the scariest power tool I ever used. Although in the mid 1960's one of my shop teachers, who hated long hair, had a great story about what can happen if a pony tail got caught in a drill press. No tomahawk needed.

@Readers- Got a little time to kill? Like industrial accidents and Johnny Cash soundalike songs? Then friends, you need to Shake Hands With Danger.

Back in 1980, a guy with whom I worked ruined his left hand with a radial arm saw. Cut off his thumb and two fingers. He was alone in the shop at the time. He was patched up, but never the same. Didn't play the tuba, though.
