What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stranger.
Just let him chew on the thermometer. Nothing says "well" like Hg.
Actually, I think that's the other way around... viruses (like colds) typically are sugar driven, and a Fever needs the fuel to burn the infection out... As always, I reserve the right to be a complete dunder bumpf ... Roomie asked if we had (rubbing) alcohol to clean a thermometer... "of course! What flavor - Vodka, Bourbon or Rum?" We're "adults", why the heck use rubbing alcohol, right?
@TrickyRicky- Of course, the kid will grow up being into heavy metal...and vice versa.@Pete (Detroit)- Several folks have pointed out that I may have gotten this old saying bass ackwards. All I know is that the kid deserved ice cream. And I've absolutely used liquor to swab thermometers in the past. Hey, why risk going blind from ingesting wood alcohol?!
What if your cold has anorexia?
The nurses at the schools I went to when growing up used to keep the thermometers in a container of 70% alcohol, and would only shake them a few times before sticking them in your mouth. I think it was because if you were too sick to go "Yuk"at the taste they knew you were not faking just to get out of class.
