@Sergio- I was originally structuring the gag around that other interpretation of "late," but it called for too convoluted a set-up.

@JustaJeepGuy- Oh, I didn't wait at all. I sat down to do a cartoon, thought of "better late than never" for no particular reason, then thought of Neville (for the same no-reason), and suddenly I had a finished and somewhat regrettable cartoon.
If Neville died in the crash, then by definition, he's the one who is late. Somewhat reminiscent of "the day the music died."
