In the past, I have promised daughter Jarlsberg that nothing bad will ever, ever, ever happen to Lance. Which is why today I envy Johnny so very, very much...

  1. Only a dog lover can understand what you and your family are going through now.
I've often said that one of life's worst realities is that dogs do not live nearly long enough, and perhaps people live too long.....

    So, so sorry Stilton.

  6. Had to put down our 11-year-old Akita about a year ago. It was the only time I wore a mask, and it was to hide the tears at the vets office.

  7. A tough one to read without getting choked up, but appropriate for your loss: https://www.thehospiceheart.net/post/goodbye-max

  10. If attempting to describe the sense of loss following the death of a four-legged creature whom you regarded as "your child" to someone who doesn't truly love animals ... there are no words sufficient.

But if sharing those feelings with another animal lover ... there are no words needed.

I lost my little man a year ago, and he'll be the first creature I'll look for when I pass on to the next world (and my wife understands this).

And yes, also being in the medical world & having seen my share of people breathe their last, the "Goodbye Max" story had me crying as well.

Stilton, thank you SO MUCH for all the laughs you've given us. We only hope to offer a bit of comfort to you in return. Know that we're thinking of you and your family!
