The joke above only works if you know that a "Fer De Lance" is a really horrendously poisonous snake that nobody wants in their stocking, their shoe, or their zip code.  Unfortunately, I'm guessing that 99% of readers don't know that - but how could I let a "For Lance" joke go?

Anyway, for the curious, here's a link to a TV producer who was bitten by a Fer De Lance on the foot. WARNING: it is a picture of a really nastily damaged foot with bones, tendons, licorice whips, and other horrible things exposed. So don't click on this link if you're not into that sort of thing.

I realize that no joke gets funnier with explanation, but thought I'd at least prove that there was a point to the joke. Mostly that I have a sick sense of humor and am aware of way too many creatures which could bite me.  -Stilt
