@John Robert Mallernee- Have no fear, Johnny's not going anywhere. This particular cartoon was prompted by a recent (and ongoing) cough which has plagued me for well over a month now. I was trying to decide if the musical quality of a recent spasm was more croup or whooping, and the joke wrote itself.
I used to get that cough after every cold. It would last for 3 months or more. I didn't care what it was called, I just wanted it gone! I always asked "Can't I just die and get it over with??" Apparently, the answer was always "NO!"
@JustaJeepGuy- You nailed it; that's the cough I've still got. It comes with a delightful bonus called "vasovagal syncope," which basically means "cough until you start to pass out," which I'm currently doing multiple times a day. Apparently, the only treatment is to bang your fist on the desk and shout an expletive after each coughing spasm while waiting for your vision to clear.
@Stilt, After many years and many attempts to kill it, I finally found that albuterol helps get rid of the cough most effectively. The antibiotic Levaquin did the trick--ONCE.
@Stan, I wondered for a while why Johnny would need a trailer that big. Then I suddenly got what you meant...
