Well played, Bruce! Give me a minute, Valve, I'll (happily!) check, and verify! Hmmm, first samples inconclusive, going back for seconds..
Full agreed, "green" as in "fresh / unripe" see also moon and "green" cheese, which is silvery / pale until ripened..
Side note - G'G'ma's maiden name same (she came from Dublin area) as the family that sold the brewery in Dublin to Arthur Guinness - it is entirely likely that I come from a long line of marginal brewers. Enhanced when Mom was talking to Uncle on her Dad's side (NOT Irish) that I'd taken up home brewing "OH! Like Mom! She used to brew during prohibition, and sell it to help pay bills (his dad died while Mom was preg w/ #9 - they looked UP to "poor" ) My hobby got muhc more respectible in Mom's eyes. Tho not my skills. And I shudder to think what her beer tasted like...

I read somewhere (National Lampoon?) that as long as an Irishman can hold on to one blade of grass on G-d's green earth, he's not too drunk.
