Memorial Day

johnny optimism, medical, humor, sick, jokes, boy, wheelchair, doctors, hospital, stilton jarlsberg, memorial day

The troubles we have pale in comparison to the gifts we've been given by those who died in military service. This Memorial Day, take time to remember their lives, their deaths, and the fact that it is our shared responsibility - now and forever - to be worthy of their sacrifices.

MY RESPONSE TO THIS ARTICLE:

This was the headline for this article:

"Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?"

We do not "CELEBRATE" Memorial Day!

We observe it, as a solemn event, remembering our MILITARY dead, and not somebody's great aunt Bertha, who can have her grave decorated on any of the other 364 days of the year.

Also, concerts, parades, and other forms of public celebration are inappropriate.

Memorial Day and Veterans Day are NOT synonymous!

Memorial Day is for my brother, who died last Friday 21 May 2021, and other military dead.

Veterans Day is for me, and my fellow living comrades-in-arms, and on Veterans Day, celebrations of all types are very appropriate.

Memorial Day, originally called, "Decoration Day", began as women in Georgia placing flowers on the graves of their Confederate dead, and the event was plagiarized by a Union general who observed them.

Thus began our Memorial Day.

We live in the security that was given by those who gave all. We are blessed to live in this nation where freedom is a right. We are blessed that men and women will volunteer to risk their lives to preserve our freedoms.

We should never forget the sacrifice of those who died and of the families who gave their loved ones to preserve our liberty. We owe them a debt that cannot be measured.
