Halloween 2019

Our annual Halloween posting is probably our favorite of the year. Not just because we love Halloween, although that certainly enters into it. But because it allows us to showcase the real kids who are demonstrating the central principle of this unusual webcomic: Life can treat you unfairly, but you can fight back with humor.

We don't normally get misty at Halloween, but we can't hold back a manly sniffle or two (and a lot of approving laughter) while looking at the wonderful wheelchair costumes put together by these kids, their families, and caregivers. They're all heroes in our book, and a genuine inspiration.

And so here they are - TWO galleries this year. Enjoy, and best wishes to you and yours for this kookiest, spookiest of holidays!   -Stilt

PS: As always, you can click on any of the pictures to open it in a new window with a larger size!

He must be the Grim Reeser. Reese's cups a waste of perfectly good chocolate

I used to love the holiday as a child. Trick or treating around our sparsely populated neighborhood, long before one had to worry about adulterated treats or real ghouls accosting us. Later, it was a very fun time as a young adult. It seemed that in costumes and masks inhibitions were even less than at the over-hyped New Years Eve celebrations. Now that I am older, I feel sad that we get few if any trick or treaters. Apparently they all go to supervised events on our little main street or at supermarket malls where the treats are concentrated and there are smaller risks due to vehicles and such.

As for the incredible tykes in your albums, how great for them. They remind me of the Shriner ads I see on TV of kids with all sorts of disabilities who fight through and flourish. I know Johnny and Lance will have a fine haul of treats tonight.
